Position Name: Medical Billing Specialist

Position Overview
eGastroMD is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Billing Specialist to manage billing operations and ensure accurate, efficient processing of claims. This role supports our gastroenterology practice by maintaining billing accuracy, optimizing reimbursement, and providing outstanding support to patients and insurance partners. This is a fully remote position.
Prepare, review, and submit clean claims to insurance companies (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid).
Ensure proper CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding for gastroenterology services and procedures.
Verify accuracy of charge entries and correct any discrepancies prior to claim submission.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer billing rules, GI-specific coding updates, and compliance policies.
Monitor and follow up on all submitted claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
Investigate and resolve claim rejections, denials, and underpayments.
Submit appeals and corrected claims as needed.
Track claim status using EMR/billing systems.
Prepare and send patient statements with accuracy and clarity.
Assist patients with billing questions, payment plans, and insurance clarifications.
Maintain compassionate, professional communication with patients and families.
Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
Assist with obtaining prior authorizations when required for GI procedures or diagnostic services.
Maintain organized, confidential billing records and documentation.
Generate financial and billing performance reports (A/R, aging, collection metrics).
Support monthly closing and reconciliation processes.
High school diploma or equivalent required; certification in medical billing or coding a plus.
1-2 years of medical billing experience, preferably in gastroenterology or a specialty practice.
Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS codes, and insurance payer requirements.
Proficiency with medical billing software and EMR systems.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and follow-up skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
Experience with GI-specific billing workflows and procedure coding (e.g., endoscopy, colonoscopy).
Familiarity with claim appeals and payer reimbursement guidelines.
Strong customer service skills when interacting with patients regarding billing.
