ACCOUNTANT

Description:

Job Summary: Balances and posts daily worksheets to the general ledger system. Reconciles the cash and EFT account, among other various accounts in the Chart of Accounts. Assists with carrying out various other duties of the Accounting Office. Conduct payroll responsibilities from reconciliation of payroll accounts to process payroll on a bi-weekly basis.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

Balances and posts daily worksheets to the general ledger.

Reconciles the following accounts: Cash Account, EFT Account, Unapplied Cash Account, Self-Insurance Account, FSA Account, All CD Accounts, Interest Bearing, Cafeteria Account, Payroll Account, and Prepaid Accounts.

Posting Revenue .

Posts Interdepartmental Charges.

Assists the Accounting Director with Unclaimed Property.

Assists the Accounting Director to prepare for the yearly Financial Audit and Medicare & Medicaid Cost Reports.

Ensures the Accounting Department is in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

Supervises the issuance of electronic payments to non-employee individuals who work for Johnson Regional Medical Center.

Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.

Professional Requirements:

Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.

Completes annual educational requirements.

Maintains regulatory requirements.

Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled.

Wears identification while on duty.

Participates on various hospital committees as requested.

Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.

Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Attends committee, CQI and management meetings, as appropriate.

Resolves staff concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required.

Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control.

Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to staff and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.

Actively participates in the department's continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Regulatory Requirements:

•Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting or Finance is desired but not required.

•Preferred two to five year's experience in accounting is desired but not required in a hospital setting.

Language Skills:

•Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

•Additional languages preferred.

Skills:

•Excellent computer knowledge.

•Experience in use of Microsoft Excel, etc.

Physical Demands:

•Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Oral communication. Operates 10-key calculator, typewriter, telephone, PC. Continuous sitting. Occasional walking and bending. May lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
